Trauma

Our programs are designed around connecting to the outdoors. While no path is the same for an individual facing their trauma it is our purpose to help them find a way to heal. Through the therapeutic resources, outdoor programs, and our faith we help connect them to a life not held hostage by the darkness they have endured.

"Humans receive physical and psychological benefits from nature exposure which include decrease in blood pressure, increase in physical activity, improved recovery from stress and attention fatigue, and relief of depressive symptoms"(Mayer et al., 2009; Shanahan et al., 2016).

"Clients participating in outdoor therapies are able to develop skills and experiences designed to increase one’s sense of mastery, sense of connectedness, and emotional regulation abilities. These three areas were defined by Prince-Embry (2015) as the three major areas in which influence an individual’s resilience."

"Researchers in the UK found that group outdoor activities such as surfing, falconry, or horseback riding decreased participants' anxiety and stress while increasing social connections. A four-month follow-up survey concluded that the effects were sustained over time" (PLoS (Public Library of Science) One).

"There were 25 studies included in this review, with three overarching themes being identified: nature experiences providing opportunities for respite and reprieve from trauma symptoms; building and improving connections and relationships to others; and supporting the development of positive intrapersonal outcomes."(Web)

"A 2019 study demonstrated that spending 20 minutes or more outdoors causes the body’s production of cortisol and other stress hormones to decrease—and this invites the brain and body to relax."(Web)
